I haven’t done my math homework in three days but that’s okay because I ran a 6:52 mile today and that makes me happy.
I made it 35 days. Oops.
Everything feels nice. It smells fresh and clean, but not like the scent of warm pavement post-downpour. It’s the smell of summer. The days are long and the weather is warm, a rare luxury. The girls are donning their short shorts and unintentionally seducing the shirtless white boys who play basketball in the dim light of dusk.
I want to sleep outside and stargaze. Or maybe catch some fireflies and feel their little legs crawl rapidly around inside my cupped hands. Perhaps I’ll get some friends together and explore some forest.
Then I remember that I can’t stargaze, there’s light pollution where I live. Then I remember the fireflies are in New Jersey, we don’t have them where I live. Then I remember that there isn’t much forest where I live, let alone friends.
I have a friend in my driver’s ed class. She went to school with me last year, but doesn’t anymore. She’s a lot of fun and we talk about running a lot because we initially met in track.
We watch lots of videos in this class. One of the things they show us is a driving simulator-type game- you point out whats wrong in the scene. It’s really boring.
I don’t pay too much attention in driver’s ed.
